A New Category Of Gloves: Compact Boxing Gloves Are The Future, And It Starts Now

The Real Differences Behind Traditional Headgear Design Reading A New Category Of Gloves: Compact Boxing Gloves Are The Future, And It Starts Now 5 minutes

Boxing has always evolved through small, meaningful innovations - which has resulted in little innovation at all in certain periods after the late 90s. To be frank, rarely has this sport seen changes at the speed of a punch. And while Hit N Move have changed that more recently, their newest coup takes inspiration from the idea that a little difference can make the biggest difference over time.

With the new and upcoming additions to the Compact Boxing Gloves series from Hit N Move, we move away from promises of 40oz giant boxing gloves bringing any benefits to the game of a professional boxer.

And what has proven itself for decades is still valid - larger gloves for sparring and protection, smaller gloves for competition. However, when it comes to bags and mitts, the choices were…well, the same? Conditioning tools have existed for a while, but they often came in the form of bulky weighted gloves or awkward add-ons that altered punching mechanics.

The Compact series introduced an entirely different concept: conditioning weight delivered in the size of real fight gloves. Further, weight just enough to add resistance, but ensures punching mechanics are maintained.

What sounds like a simple idea on the surface, actually opens a whole new space in the market. Hit N Move have perfected their line which started with the 24oz conditioning gloves, followed by the Compact 12, and will soon feature other weights and sized in between.

Conditioning Without Compromising Mechanics

We’ve seen a lot of useless gimmicks in this space of boxing equipment, with no real efficiency or benefits taken away in the end, so we usually never hear about them again. Traditionally, fighters looking to increase endurance or resistance during training would simply use heavier gloves like 18oz or even larger. While somewhat effective for conditioning, these gloves also completely change the physical dimensions of the hand. The punch profile changes, and combinations don’t feel anything like they would with a fight glove.

For fighters, especially those who rely on tight combinations and accuracy, that difference of inches turns into a mile’s difference.

Hit N Move simply asked ‘Why does glove weight automatically dictate glove size?’. Then, rewrote the rules.

The Compact 12 for example, delivers a 12oz training weight in the compact form factor of an 8 to 10oz fight glove. No huge difference, no crazy shoulder workout with a fighter asking for a break halfway through the round. Instead, slightly higher weight, that makes a big difference over the distance of a training session, even more so over the distance of a camp. Truly the future of professional fighter’s training camps when it comes to bag and mitt work.

On the other end of the conditioning spectrum sits Hit N Move’s 24oz glove, built in the size of a traditional 16oz glove. This glove genuinely pushes endurance to another level, forcing the shoulders, arms, and lungs to work harder during bag work. Think you’ve done grueling conditioning training? Try your normal pensum of rounds on the bag with these and you will find out where you are. 24oz is heavy, but not a random weight. Scientific studies support it as the optimal weight that allows maximum conditioning without compromising punch mechanics.

Creating A New Training Category Of Gloves

If you haven’t realized by now - this is a completely new category of glove. We know bag, sparring and fight gloves. Resistance gloves, or better said ‘Compact Boxing Gloves’, are totally new innovation.

And Hit N Move has made it clear that the Compact concept is just getting started. The space between the Compact 12 and the 24oz gloves is already in the process of being filled soon, with plenty of options to choose from (amateur boxers will love to hear this).

Hit N Move develops in a sweet spot between real fighters’ demands and scientific data. The new line mirrors how athletes train in other sports as well. Capacity is built through progressive resistance. Boxers can apply that same principle.

A System For Both Professionals & Amateurs

While the amateurs might wonder what to do with the fight glove feeling, the system is serving them just as well. The ability to train speed, accuracy, and endurance without altering glove shape is valuable at every level of the sport, and the brand is looking to meet amateur boxers all over the world with a Compact model that emulates the amateur competition glove size very soon.

Well, maybe this one does flip the script and change the market entirely. It wouldn’t be the first time a Hit N Move innovation disrupts the boxing world. However, the Compact Boxing Gloves series honours what is learned and proven over decades in the sport.

When the tools respect the skills and discipline, and add what we know about resistance training, they are taking a seat right in between boxing greatness and new heights.
