Glove fit problems are more common than most people think. Small hands, wide hands, thick knuckles, tight wraps, long fingers, etc.
We get messages about these issues all the time and have solved the majority of those problems with one layer of padding.
Why Boxing Gloves Feel Tight At First
How the glove arrives and how it will feel after 20-30 rounds are usually night and day. A new boxing glove is not meant to feel perfectly broken in on day one.
You have to understand that these gloves will soften and break in over time, and so often, if they feel perfect on day one, they will be too soft and too loose after the padding has broken down.
HIT N MOVE’s Fit Solution
Tight Today.
Tailored Tomorrow.
We have solved this issue by making sure our gloves always feel tight when they first arrive. This is because the inner layer of all DR-T padded gloves is a comfort ID memory foam that molds around your hands for a snug fit tailored to your hands.
This can take 20-30 rounds on the bag, but if you want to speed up the process, we recommend doing push-ups on your knuckles in between rounds.
They Will Feel Tight Before They Feel Perfect
Because the glove is designed to mold to your hand, it will feel tight at first.
This is not an issue; it is a design feature.
That is why we recommend not wearing any knuckle guards while you break them in. Also loosening the laces more than regular gloves.
If you absolutely cannot fit your hand in, you can scrunch up a newspaper or folded socks and squish them in the glove, then leave it overnight, which will expand the padding enough to fit your hand in.
But we assure you that after the glove is broken in, it will feel more natural, more comfortable, and molded around your hand.
Best Gloves For Small Hands
This can be frightening when you want to try a new pair but are worried it won’t fit.
For a small-handed fighter, the best glove will come from our Compact series. It’s in the name, and we offer an S/M sizing option for the Compact 12s.
For a sparring glove, we recommend the Agility.
It has the same padding, protection, and hand compartment as our other training gloves (the Balance); however, it features a larger grip bar, which takes up more space in the hand compartment, allowing for a tighter fit before breaking in around your hand.
Best Gloves For Wide Hands
Wide-handed fighters usually need patience during the break-in. The glove may feel snug across the knuckles at first, but the memory foam layer should create more comfort over time.
If you're wondering which model will fit you, all of them should, unless you have Andre the Giant-size hands. Our gloves have been tested on ranked heavyweight contenders with massive hands, and they have found the gloves comfortable after the break-in period.
When Is The Glove Actually Too Small/Big?
A glove may be too small if:
-
Your fingers are painfully curled
-
You cannot make a proper fist
-
Numbness continues after the break-in period
-
You cannot fit your normal hand wraps
-
Pain gets worse instead of better
A glove may be too big if:
-
Your hand slides around inside the glove
-
You struggle to make a secure fist
-
The glove feels loose even with wraps on
-
Your knuckles do not line up naturally with the padding
-
You feel a lack of control when punching
Conclusion
Small hands and wide hands are both normal.
A glove that feels perfect on day one may feel great, but it can be misleading because the glove will break in and the perfect fit will adjust. That is why we design our gloves to support the fist, protect the hand, and mold correctly after break-in.
Even if it takes 20–40 rounds to break in.
