Creating a Standard
The First Point of Contact
X-ray testing helped define both natural fist positioning and a design standard for the glove’s first point of impact, supporting efficient energy transfer. To assess glove shape, a reference plane is established along its back, and the perpendicular distance to the first point of impact is measured. A smaller deviation indicates less downward bend and a straighter glove profile, designed to direct force through the index and middle knuckles.
Analysing All Gloves
Comparing Glove Construction
Testing also examined established glove designs widely used in boxing, including a USA Boxing-approved model with single-piece IMF padding. The comparison explored how padding construction affects energy transfer and punch feedback.
